Numerical Maze of Divisibles by 12

Find a path from the START to the END passing only through numbers that are divisible by 12. There is only one solution for this numerical maze. To solve this maze faster, first learn the following three mental math hints:

1) If a number is divisible by 3 and by 4 then the number is divisible by 12.

2) If the sum of the digits of a number is divisible by 3 then the number is divisible by 3. For example, 2130021 is divisible by 3 because 9, the sum of its digits (2 + 1 + 3 + 0 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 9), is divisible by 3.

3) If half of a number is an even number then that number is divisible by 4. For example, 72 is divisible by 4 because half of it, 36, is an even number. Also, if the last two digits of a number is divisible by 4 then that number is divisible by 4. As an example: 897232 is divisible by 4 because its last 2 digits; i.e. 32, is divisible by 4.

Puzzle Answer

Answer:

Who Controlled the Radio?

As usual, John refused to look at a map or ask for direc-tions when he and his wife, Marsha, went on a road trip. By sheer luck, they managed to take the same route both ways. John was driving when they left the house, but Marsha drove the last 65 miles. On the way back, John drove the first 50 miles, then Marsha sat behind the wheel the rest of the way. Marsha swears she drove more miles than John, but without a map she thinks she has no proof. Is Marsha right?

Light Up

Light Up, invented by the Japanese puzzle company Nikoli under the name Akari or Light Up, is played on a rectangular grid of white and black cells. The player places light bulbs in white cells such that no two bulbs shine on each other, until the entire grid is lit up. A bulb sends rays of light horizontally and vertically, illuminating its entire row and column unless its light is blocked by a black cell. A black cell may have a number on it from 0 to 4, indicating how many bulbs must be placed adjacent to its four sides; for example, a cell with a 4 must have four bulbs around it, one on each side, and a cell with a 0 cannot have a bulb next to any of its sides. An unnumbered black cell may have any number of light bulbs adjacent to it, or none. Bulbs placed diagonally adjacent to a numbered cell do not contribute to the bulb count.

Example:

Light Up, Akari

Solution for the Example:

Akari, Light Up

OK, here is a Light Up puzzle for you. Try to solve it in 15 minutes!

Puzzle Answer

Answer:

108. If the figure is a regular decagon, it can be divided into ten equal sections by lines passing through the center. Two such lines form the indicated angle, which includes three of the ten sections; 3/10 of 360 degrees is equal to 108 degrees.

Values of Q and T

If B + P + F = 24, what are the values of Q and T?
Hint: Consider whole numbers only.

Puzzle Answer

Answer:

Since A + B = Z and Z + P = T, it follows that A + B + P = T. We also know that T + A = F, so adding the last two equations and simplifying, we get 2A + B + P = F. We know that B + P + F = 24, so we have:

24 - B - P = F
2A + B + P = F

Hence:

24 + 2A = 2F  or  12 + A = F

We can replace F with T + A. The equation then becomes 12 + A = T + A> so T = 12 and therefore Q = 19.
